Visions Festival
Brief: To create a vibrant festival brand that translates across physical products and advertisements.
Project Specifics: To adapt the gradient colour scheme to create four distinct wristbands to allow access to four different experiences.
Branding
Because the branding emphasises so heavily on the gradient textures, there was a need to create suitable base colours. A mixture of soft, warm tones in the coral and yellow, with harder, more asserted tones in the pink and dark blue make for a good contrast with each other, as well as pleasant gradients. Many of the project end results need to be physically printed, and so there is a risk that vibrant colour will not appear as bright when printed. To avoid this, I prepared the document in RGB to get the brightest colours possible, and then used colordesigner.io to convert HEX to CMYK. This provides a far closer match to RGB colours. I have converted and provided the CMYK values.
Alternatively, a printer can use a calibrated RIP (Raster Image Processor), to provide a very close match. Some even prefer the original file to be in RGB. Full ICC colour profiles are included within the final file to facilitate this.
Physical Assets
Creating the wristbands needs the same quality, and recreate the same urge to keep the items, but be visually different and identifiable by security and staff. From a distance, one can tell if the user is allowed in the Backstage area, or the VIP area, from the brightness and contrast of the variations.
In order to ensure that they print on a large scale at a high quality, I would ensure that all assets on the page are vectorised, including the copy. I would then ensure that the quality in the document setup is at least 100 DPI. Exporting the file as a TIFF file ensures that maximum quality is kept while keeping the file size manageable. For the printers to access the right colours, ensuring that the ICC Colour Profile is included is essential.
Creating a ticket for the festival necessitated a clear user interface as well as an attractive appearance that would encourage people to keep a hold of the ticket itself. Creating something that would look great attached to the fridge by a magnet before the event, and adhered in a scrapbook afterwards.
